KKR is seeking to acquire the WebMD medical site

KKR is negotiating the acquisition of WebMD, the owner of the famous medical site and other health-related sites.

If acquired, WebMD and other sites owned by Medscape.com and MedicineNet.com will join the list of health sites owned by KKR’s Internet Brands Inc., such as DentalPlans.com, VeinDirectory.org and AllAboutCounseling.com.

According to Reuters, in the past five months alone WebMD has received about 100 different offers of acquisition. Last year, it attracted 60 million visitors, but most of the advertising revenue comes from the Medscape brand of health news and information.

WebMD was founded in 1996 and launched its IPO in 2005 with a recent market cap of $ 2.1 billion.
