LG plans to compete with Samsung in producing OLED screens for iPhone phones

LG plans to inject $ 3.5 billion in investment to rival Samsung in the production of OLED screens for iPhone phones in 2018, according to the Korean news agency ET News.

According to the report, the company injected this investment into a new facility known as the P10, which was dedicated to the production of OLED TV screens. But because LG would like to win the Apple TV, I decided to change its plans and convert the facility to equip screens for smartphones.

Samsung and Apple have won this year – according to rumors – to be responsible for the production of OLED screens for iPhone 8 phones, it will first equip 70 million units according to Apple’s requests, but intends to process more than 100 million screen to be ready to meet the demands of the company.

The report said that LG had an alternative plan if it failed to reach Apple, it believes that Chinese companies will move to use OLED, and will be ready to meet the demands.

According to Korean media, Apple plans to launch the iPhone 9 in entirely new sizes in 2018, the first small will come with a screen 5.28 inches, while the second will be a screen 6.46 inches. At a time when the OLED phone screen will also be produced by Samsung.

Digitimes said that Apple will begin testing Micro-LED screens in the coming period, installing the first order in limited quantities from its Taiwan-based plants, surpassing the focus on OLED only.
