Key Logger Found on HP 28 laptop

Security experts have warned that there are software tracking users and recording everything typed on the keyboard in dozens of laptops from HP.

The seriousness of the subject is so much that the software is kept secret and keeps all that the user writes in text documents without any encryption that anyone can access and see their content.

This means anything you type, such as passwords, user names, credit card numbers, search terms, site links, etc., are all kept secret and even unsafe.

HP has implicitly acknowledged this and sent a security update to resolve the problem and disrupt tracking software that appeared in 28 HP sold between 2015 and 2016 and from several series such as EliteBook, ProBook and ZBook

It is important to note that HP did not intentionally set up tracking software and write recording on its computers, but it was part of Conexant’s sound card definitions operator used in these computers.

The software seems to have been set for a purpose related to the sound card function but used incorrectly. The sound card definition records all keystrokes to see when a user presses a volume control button such as volume, pause, and play. This state assumes that the program monitors certain buttons within the keyboard, not all buttons, such as letters and numbers.

Although the text file that contains everything typed on the keyboard is overwritten at every restart, the task of retrieving the old files is not difficult and impossible and the experts can access them.

The HP spokesman did not comment on the existence of the tracking software except that the company could not access the user data and would provide repair of the problem through its official website.

Modzero Security, which discovered the software, says that the file that stores everything typed on the keyboard can be accessed in the following way:
C: \ Windows \ System32 \ MicTray.exe

Or the following path:

C: \ Windows \ System32 \ MicTray64.exe

As the operating system can delete the file of course. The track record can be accessed through the track:

C: \ Users \ Public \ MicTray.log
